Abstract

Students' understanding of the structure of Observation Report (LHO) texts is an important aspect in the development of critical literacy skills in Indonesian language learning. This study aims to describe the level of understanding of 10th grade students at SMAN 1 Jetis Ponorogo regarding the structure of LHO texts, which includes orientation, general description, description of parts, and conclusions. The study employed adescriptive quantitative approach using a survey method through a closed-ended questionnaire containing 20 statements. The respondents consisted of 19 students who had studied the LHO material. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics through SPSS. The results of the study showed that 3 students were in the very good understanding category, 11 students in the fair understanding category, 4 students in the poor understanding category, and 1 student in the not understanding category. The aspects that were easiest for students to understand were orientation and general description, while part description and conclusion were the weakest indicators. These findings confirm that student understanding is not yet uniform, thus requiring learning strategies that emphasize detailed analysis, the use of authentic texts, and exercises in drawing conclusions based on observational data.
