Abstract

This study aims to analyze the language development of children born to amalgamated marriages and describe public perceptions of this phenomenon through a case study of a child named Ritsuki (Indonesia-Japan). The research focuses on the language development stage of 18-24 months and is limited to utterances recorded in family posts on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. The approach used is qualitative-descriptive with a single case study design. Data were collected through digital observation of 12 videos featuring Ritsuki's utterances (observation period: January-March 2024) and analysis of 30 posts/comment threads to capture public perceptions; secondary data consisted of literature related to bilingualism, parenting practices in mixed families, and framing theory. The analysis was conducted using content analysis techniques to identify emerging linguistic patterns and social contexts. The results showed that Ritsuki's language skills were appropriate for a child aged 18-24 months and exhibited the characteristics of natural bilingualism in the form of code-mixing between Indonesian and Japanese. Meanwhile, public perceptions on social media showed two trends: appreciation of linguistic ability and concern about language mixing.
