Objectives

The Indonesian Journal of Gender Studies (IJouGS) is a peer-reviewed academic journal committed to advancing interdisciplinary scholarship on gender, feminism, gender equality, and social transformation. The journal provides a scholarly platform for researchers, academics, and practitioners to critically examine gender relations, identities, inequalities, and power structures across religious, cultural, educational, social, political, legal, and media contexts.

IJouGS aims to publish original, theoretically grounded, and methodologically rigorous research that advances gender studies as an interdisciplinary field. The journal encourages scholarly inquiry into gender justice, social inclusion, women's empowerment, gender-responsive education, cultural representation, and the transformation of gender relations in local, national, and global contexts.

The journal also seeks to facilitate critical dialogue between empirical findings, theoretical perspectives, and context-sensitive approaches, particularly those exploring the intersections of gender with religion, culture, social institutions, and public policy.

Scope

IJouGS welcomes original research articles and other scholarly contributions that critically examine gender-related issues from interdisciplinary and context-sensitive perspectives. Submissions may employ qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, conceptual, historical, textual, or comparative approaches, provided that gender constitutes a central analytical focus and that the manuscript makes a clear and substantive contribution to gender studies.

The journal's scope includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  1. Gender, Religion, and Islamic Studies: Gender perspectives in religious texts, Qur'anic interpretation, Islamic thought, religious practices, religious institutions, and contemporary debates on gender and religion.
  2. Gender, Education, and Empowerment: Gender equality in education, gender-responsive pedagogy, women's leadership, educational access, empowerment, and the reproduction or transformation of gender norms in educational settings.
  3. Gender, Culture, and Society: Gender identities, the social construction of gender, family and kinship relations, local wisdom, cultural traditions, intersectionality, and changing gender roles in society.
  4. Gender, Politics, Law, and Public Policy: Gender justice, human rights, citizenship, political participation, legal frameworks, gender mainstreaming, and institutional responses to gender inequality.
  5. Gender, Media, and Communication: Gender representation in traditional and digital media, feminist discourse, digital cultures, social media, popular culture, and communication technologies.
  6. Gender, Language, Literature, and Representation: Gender in language, literary texts, cultural narratives, discourse, and symbolic representation.

Research concerning religion, education, culture, literature, media, law, politics, or social institutions falls within the journal's scope when gender is integral to the research question, analytical framework, and interpretation of findings, rather than merely incidental to the discussion.

IJouGS welcomes contributions from diverse geographical, disciplinary, and methodological contexts. All submissions must demonstrate originality, scholarly rigor, appropriate engagement with relevant literature, methodological appropriateness, and a clearly articulated contribution to gender studies.

The editorial team reserves the right to decline manuscripts that fall outside the journal's scope or fail to meet the journal's standards for scholarly quality, originality, methodological rigor, or publication ethics.
