Post-Publication Discussion and Corrections
Indonesian Engagement Journal (InEJ) is committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity in scholarly publishing. This policy establishes the procedures for post-publication discussions and the handling of corrections and retractions to maintain the accuracy and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal adheres to the relevant principles and practices outlined in the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
1. Post-Publication Discussions
InEJ welcomes constructive, evidence-based discussions concerning articles that have already been published. Authors, readers, researchers, community partners, and other members of the scholarly community may raise questions, provide critical comments, or offer additional insights regarding published articles. Discussions may address research methodology, program implementation, community participation, reported outcomes, and the interpretation of findings.
Letters to the Editor: Readers may submit letters discussing the content, methodology, findings, or implications of a published article. Submissions must be scholarly, objective, and supported by relevant evidence. The editor will assess their relevance, academic merit, and suitability for publication. Where appropriate, the original author may be invited to respond before a decision is made.
Submission and Communication Channels: InEJ does not provide a facility for readers to post comments directly on its website. Instead, post-publication comments and responses must be submitted through the journal’s designated editorial communication channels. This approach enables the editorial team to assess submissions and facilitate constructive scholarly discussion.
External Discussion Platforms: Readers may also discuss published articles through external scholarly discussion platforms, such as PubPeer, where appropriate. Discussions on external platforms do not replace the journal’s formal editorial procedures. If concerns raised externally are brought to the journal’s attention, the editorial team will assess them in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policies.
2. Corrections and Retractions
InEJ is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and reliability of its published content. When concerns arise regarding errors, inaccuracies, omissions, or potential breaches of publication ethics, the editorial team will assess the available evidence and determine the appropriate action.
Corrections: A formal correction may be published when an error or omission in a published article requires clarification or correction but does not invalidate the overall findings or conclusions. The correction notice will clearly identify the affected article, describe the error, and provide the corrected information. The original article and correction notice will be linked where technically feasible.
Retractions: An article may be retracted when there is clear evidence that its findings are unreliable, whether because of a serious error or research misconduct, including data fabrication, data falsification, plagiarism, or other significant ethical violations. Retraction decisions will be made following an appropriate editorial assessment and, where necessary, consultation with the authors, relevant institutions, or other parties. A retraction notice will explain the reasons for the retraction and identify the affected article. The original article will remain accessible where appropriate, clearly marked as retracted, to preserve the transparency of the scholarly record.
3. Editorial Assessment and Transparency
All post-publication concerns will be handled objectively, fairly, and confidentially during the assessment process. The editorial team will provide relevant authors with an opportunity to respond to substantive allegations before making a decision, where appropriate. Editorial actions will be proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the concerns and based on the available evidence.
Corrections and retractions will be documented and made publicly accessible through the journal’s website. InEJ will follow applicable publication ethics principles and recognized editorial best practices when addressing post-publication concerns.
4. Policy Review
InEJ will periodically review this policy to ensure its continued relevance and alignment with recognized standards of scholarly publishing ethics. Any amendments will be communicated through the journal’s official website.
