Author Guidelines

DETAILS AND GUIDELINES FOR YOUR MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Please carefully follow the guidelines below as you write. Any manuscripts that do not meet these guidelines will be returned to the author(s) for revision.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items. The submissions may be returned to authors who do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The paper should not have been published or considered for publication in other journals or other media.
  2. The format of the file is .doc or .docx.
  3. All text, including title, headings, and subheadings must be typed, 1.15 spaced, with 3-3 and 3-3 margins all around and type on one side of A4 paper. Please use a 12-point font, Garamond. Your references should conform to the most recent Chicago Style Citations guide.
  4. The length of the paper is about 6.000-7.000 words.
  5. The paper should be free from plagiarism and academic malpractices. The editor checks each article before its publication. Please ensure that all information taken from outside sources is properly cited and that all thoughts are composed in your own words. Text similarity below 20% is acceptable by the journals, and similarity of >20% will be immediately returned to the authors for correction and may be cause for removal of the manuscript from the publication.
  6. The article should cite texts that follow the right guidelines, as seen in the Author’s Guidelines.

Manuscripts Criteria

  1. All manuscripts must be submitted electronically at http://jurnal.uinponorogo.ac.id/index.php/cendekia (see How to Submit). This system will permit the editorial team to keep the submission and review process as efficient as possible.
  2. Manuscripts should be written in English. The content submitted to Cendekia: Jurnal Kependidikan dan Kemasyarakatan must be written in clear English with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. The fitness of a manuscript for publication in Cendekia: Jurnal Kependidikan dan Kemasyarakatan is carefully reviewed based on each of the dimensions listed below.
  • Significance/relevance to Islamic education and Islamic society.
  • Methods (manuscript MUST be an empirical study): appropriateness to questions, adequate description of methods (including data collection and analysis), and rigor of methods.
  • Results and discussion are data-based.
  • Conclusion covers the main point of the article. 
  • Overall contribution to the field.
  • Writing style/composition/clarity.

Manuscript Preparation and General Format

Authors should prepare and submit two separate files:

  1. Title Page, containing complete author and administrative information; and
  2. Main Manuscript, prepared in an anonymized format for the peer-review process.
  3. Title Page

The Title Page must be submitted as a separate file from the main manuscript. It should contain the complete title of the manuscript, authors’ names, institutional affiliations, corresponding author information, and author biographies.

The Title Page should include the following information:

Article Title. The title should clearly indicate the study's research focus, findings, methods, or novelty. It should not exceed 12 words. The title should be written in Garamond, 14-point font, in bold type, with appropriate capitalization and centered alignment.

Author(s). Authors’ names should be written in full and without academic or professional titles. Use superscript numbers to indicate each author’s institutional affiliation and an asterisk (*) to identify the Corresponding Author.

Affiliation. Provide the author’s department, faculty/school, university or institution, and country. Each affiliation should correspond to the superscript number assigned to the respective author.

Corresponding Author. The Corresponding Author must be clearly identified with an asterisk (*). A valid email address must be provided.

Author Biography. Each author should provide a brief professional biography of no more than 100 words, written in the third person. The biography should include the author’s current affiliation, educational background, and primary research interests. A valid email address and ORCID ID, if available, should be provided at the end of the biography.

  1. Main Manuscript

The main manuscript should generally consist of the following sections:

Title, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, and References

Title. The title should not exceed 12 words. It should be written in Garamond, 14-point font, with title-case capitalization and centered alignment.

Author(s). The author’s name should not be followed by any academic titles. The author should write his/her institution and its address. It is put under the title. Notice to Authors of Joint Works (articles with more than one author). Please identify the Corresponding Author for your work when submitting your manuscript for review. All authors should include their institutions and email addresses.

Abstract and keywords. Abstract should be written in English. Abstracts describing the essence of the manuscript must be 150-200 words. It contains the title, aims, method, and findings. Authors should select keywords from the menu on the manuscript submission system so that readers may search for the article after it is published. The keywords should consist of 3-5 words or phrases. It should be typed in 12 point of Garamond.

Introduction. It should provide a clear background and context for the research, explain the research problem, state the research objectives, and identify the research gap the study addresses. It should also demonstrate the significance or contribution of the research to the relevant field.

Method. This section should be written in coherent paragraphs and provide sufficient information to enable readers to understand and, where appropriate, replicate the study. It should explain the research approach and design, type of research, research participants or data sources, data collection techniques, research instruments, and data analysis procedures, as relevant to the study.

Results and Discussion. This section should present and interpret the findings derived from the data analysis. The results should be presented systematically and discussed in relation to the research questions or objectives. The discussion should interpret the significance of the findings in light of existing theories, concepts, and previous research. It should explain how the findings confirm, extend, challenge, or differ from previous studies and highlight any new understanding, insights, or theoretical and practical implications emerging from the research

Conclusion. It should concisely summarize the study's main findings and key points in relation to the research problems or objectives. It should highlight the principal contribution of the research and may include relevant concluding remarks or implications. It should consist of no more than two paragraphs.

References. All sources cited in the manuscript must be included in the reference list, and all entries in the reference list must be cited in the manuscript. References must conform to the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition (Full Note). The reference list should be arranged in alphabetical order by authors’ surnames. Authors must ensure that all information, ideas, arguments, quotations, data, and other materials derived from other sources are properly acknowledged using Chicago-style footnotes. At least 80% of the references should be articles published in scholarly journals within the last 10 years. Authors are encouraged to use recent, relevant scholarly sources to strengthen the theoretical and empirical foundations of their manuscripts. Authors are also encouraged to cite articles published in Cendekia: Jurnal Kependidikan dan Kemasyarakatan, particularly when they are directly relevant to the manuscript's topic and discussion. Please ensure that all references strictly follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition (Full Note). Manuscripts with improperly formatted references may be returned to the authors for correction before the review process continues. Authors are encouraged to use reference management software such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote, or other compatible tools, to ensure consistency and accuracy in citation and reference formatting.
