Abstrak: Puritanisme agama, dia lahir sebagai kontra diskursus, terutama terhadap modernitas. Faktor sosial, selalu menjadi pertimbangan untuk memahami kehadiran puritanisme. Betapapun begitu, tidak bisa dipungkiri dia juga sangat dipengaruhi oleh dorongan yang terdapat dalam ajaran agama itu sendiri (inward oriented). Penolakannya terhadap Barat dan produk budayanya, misalkan kesetaraan gender, dapat dilihat dari sisi ini, yaitu karakternya yang litaralis dan tekstualis. Dari sisi inilah paper ini ditulis, untuk mengetahui perspektif epistemologis kelompok puritan dalam memahami teks-teks keagamaan tentang peran perempuan.Kata Kunci: Epistemologi Hukum Islam, Peran Perempuan, Kesetaraan Gender, Puritanisme.
