Peer Review Process

Manuscripts submitted to Justicia Islamica: Jurnal Kajian Hukum dan Sosial will undergo a selection and assessment process by the Board of Editors to ensure they conform to the writing guidelines, focus, and scope, and are of excellent academic quality. Manuscripts will be reviewed using the "double-blind peer review" method where neither the authors nor the reviewers know each other's identity.

Literature Review. At the desk review stage, the manuscript will be examined to ensure that it meets the writing guidelines, focus, and scope with excellent academic quality. If it does not meet the requirements, the author will be given the opportunity to revise the manuscript according to the given criteria. However, it is also possible that the manuscript will be rejected outright.

Peer review. When the manuscript has passed the desk review stage, it will be submitted to two reviewers who are experts in the field of the proposed manuscript. The review process will take four weeks. Manuscripts that do not make it through the desk review process will not proceed to this stage.

Reviewer's decision. Reviewers will make the following recommendations:

  1. Accepted; meaning the manuscript is acceptable for publication;
  2. Accepted with minor revisions; meaning the manuscript is acceptable for publication after revisions in response to the reviewers' concerns;
  3. Accepted with major revisions; meaning substantive deficiencies in the manuscript, such as data analysis, major theories used, and paragraph rewrites, need to be revised;
  4. Rejected; meaning the manuscript is unacceptable for publication or the review relates to a very fundamental issue.

The reviewer's decision will be considered by the Board of Editors to determine the next process of the manuscript.

Revision Stage. Once the manuscript is accepted with minor or major revisions noted, it will be returned to the author with a review summary form. For accepted manuscripts with major revisions, authors are given four weeks to revise. For accepted manuscripts with minor revisions, authors are given two weeks to revise.

Final decision. At this stage, the manuscript will be re-evaluated by the Board of Editors to ensure that the authors have revised according to the feedback from the reviewers. At this final decision, the manuscript can still be rejected if the author does not seriously make the necessary revisions.

Proofread. Once the manuscript has been accepted by the Board of Editors, it will go through a proofreading process to maintain language quality.

Confirmation of publication. At this stage, the final layout of the manuscript will be sent back to the author to ensure that the content is in accordance with the author's writing. At this stage, the author can revise any typos found in the final manuscript. After receiving confirmation from the author, the Editorial Secretary will process the manuscript for online publication on the website as well as print publication.
