Abstrak

Abstract: Pesantren tends to have adaptive response towards social changes in the community life. For this reason, pesantren always equip themselves to meet these challenges which continue to experience development. Pesantren education has followed the demands of the times with the emergence of formal and non-formal education. This research belongs to case study employing qualitative approach to discern the adaptive strategy of an Islamic boarding school. The data were collected through observations, interviews and documentaries and were then analyzed using Miles and Hubermen model, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions simultaneously. The validity of the data was gained through triangulation. The results of the study show that Raudlatul Ulum Islamic boarding school has actively adapted themselves towards these social demands illustrated as follows 1.) The dialectics of Raudlatul Ulum Islamic Boarding School and society in transforming cultural values through formal education by establishing several formal education starting from RA (Kindergarten), MI (Islamic Elementary School), MTS (Islamic Junior High School) and SMP (Junior High School) and MA (Islaimc High School). 2) The dialectics of Raudlatul Ulum Islamic Boarding School and society in transforming cultural values through non-formal education by establishing several non-formal religious-based institutions through Islamic boarding school activities either for students or for society in general. These activities involve Madrasah Diniyah, Quran recitation, Islamic Study Center, and Al-Qur'an Education Park
