Authorship Criteria

Authorship Criteria

The Indonesian Journal of Gender Studies (IJouGS) is committed to academic integrity, transparency, and responsible authorship. Authorship must reflect genuine scholarly contributions to the research and manuscript. All individuals listed as authors are expected to take responsibility for the integrity, accuracy, and originality of the work.

  1. Criteria for Authorship

To qualify for authorship, each author must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial scholarly contribution: The author must have made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the research, data collection, data analysis or interpretation, or the development of the theoretical or conceptual framework.
  2. Manuscript preparation: The author must have participated in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
  3. Final approval: The author must have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript submitted for publication.
  4. Accountability: The author must agree to be accountable for their own contributions and cooperate in addressing questions concerning the accuracy, originality, integrity, or ethical conduct of the research.

All four criteria must be fulfilled. Participation in only one aspect of a research project, such as data collection or funding acquisition, does not automatically qualify an individual for authorship.

  1. Corresponding Author

For manuscripts with multiple authors, one author must be designated as the corresponding author. The corresponding author serves as the principal contact with the editorial office throughout submission, peer review, revision, and publication.

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that all authors meet the journal's authorship criteria.
  • Confirming that all authors have approved the submitted manuscript and its final version.
  • Ensuring that the author list, author order, institutional affiliations, and contact details are accurate.
  • Coordinating communication between the editorial office and all co-authors.
  • Submitting required declarations concerning research ethics, funding, and conflicts of interest.
  • Communicating editorial decisions and revision requests to the co-authors and ensuring that agreed revisions are addressed appropriately.

The corresponding author must not add, remove, or change the order of authors without the required justification, agreement of the affected authors, and editorial approval.

  1. Author Contributions

All authors are responsible for ensuring that their contributions are represented accurately. Where requested by the editorial team, authors must provide a statement describing their individual contributions.

The journal may use the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to describe contributions, including conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data curation, formal analysis, writing of the original draft, writing and editing, supervision, and project administration, where applicable.

A contribution statement does not replace the journal's authorship criteria. Each listed author must independently satisfy all four criteria specified in Section 1.

Individuals who have provided assistance but do not meet the authorship criteria may be acknowledged with their permission. Such contributions may include administrative assistance, technical support, language editing, or other non-authorial contributions.

  1. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

IJouGS does not accept the following practices:

  • Gift or honorary authorship: Listing an individual as an author solely because of their academic position, seniority, institutional affiliation, supervisory role, or financial support.
  • Ghost authorship: Omitting an individual who has made a qualifying scholarly contribution without appropriate disclosure or recognition.
  • Misrepresentation of contributions: Claiming contributions that were not actually made.
  • Unauthorized authorship changes: Adding, removing, or rearranging authors without appropriate justification and approval.
  • Guest authorship: Including an individual who does not meet the journal's authorship criteria to enhance the perceived credibility of a manuscript.

All authors must ensure that the author list accurately reflects the scholarly contributions made to the work.

  1. Changes in Authorship

Any request to add, remove, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission must be submitted in writing to the editorial office. The request must include a clear explanation and confirmation of agreement from all affected authors, including any author being added or removed.

The editor will assess the request and may seek additional documentation before making a decision. Changes will not be implemented without editorial approval.

Requests to change authorship after publication will be evaluated in accordance with the journal's correction procedures and applicable publication-ethics principles.

  1. Originality and Ethical Responsibility

All authors are jointly responsible for ensuring that their manuscript is original, properly cited, and free from plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and other forms of research or publication misconduct.

Manuscripts must not be under consideration by another journal at the same time. Authors must disclose relevant prior dissemination, overlapping publications, funding sources, and conflicts of interest in accordance with IJouGS editorial policies.

Each author must cooperate with the editorial team if questions arise regarding authorship, research integrity, or the reliability of the published work.

  1. Editorial Oversight

The IJouGS editorial team reserves the right to request clarification or supporting documentation concerning authorship and individual contributions when necessary.

Suspected authorship misconduct will be assessed fairly and confidentially, where appropriate, in accordance with the journal's publication-ethics policies. Editorial action may include requesting clarification, suspending editorial consideration, rejecting a manuscript, or initiating further investigation where warranted.

The journal's authorship policy is intended to ensure that credit is assigned fairly, responsibility is clearly defined, and published research maintains the highest standards of academic integrity.
