Publication Schedule

Manuscript Types

The Indonesian Journal of Gender Studies (IJouGS) publishes scholarly manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of gender studies through original research, critical analysis, and theoretically informed discussion. All submissions must be relevant to the journal's focus and scope, demonstrate academic rigor, and comply with the journal's publication ethics and author guidelines.

IJouGS accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  1. Original Research Articles

Original research articles present findings from empirical investigations that make a clear and substantial contribution to gender studies. These articles may employ qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods approaches and may draw on fieldwork, surveys, interviews, ethnography, case studies, textual analysis, or other appropriate research methods.

Manuscripts should clearly articulate the research problem, objectives, theoretical or conceptual framework, methodology, findings, discussion, and implications. Research involving gender and religion, Islamic studies, education, culture, society, politics, law, media, or other relevant fields is welcome when gender constitutes a central analytical focus.

  1. Conceptual and Theoretical Articles

Conceptual and theoretical articles develop, examine, or critically evaluate concepts, theories, and analytical frameworks relevant to gender studies. These manuscripts should offer a clear theoretical contribution, provide a critical engagement with relevant scholarly literature, and advance understanding of gender relations, identities, inequalities, power structures, or social transformation.

Submissions should go beyond a descriptive overview of existing literature and demonstrate a coherent argument, critical analysis, and clear scholarly contribution.

  1. Review Articles

Review articles provide a critical and systematic examination of relevant scholarly literature on a specific topic within gender studies. They should identify major developments, theoretical debates, methodological trends, research gaps, and directions for future inquiry.

Review articles must explain their approach to literature identification, selection, and analysis where appropriate. They should offer a critical synthesis of existing research rather than merely summarize individual publications.

General Requirements

All manuscript types must meet the following requirements:

  1. Relevance: The manuscript must fall within the journal's focus and scope, with gender serving as a substantive analytical concern.
  2. Originality: The manuscript must represent original scholarly work and must not be published previously or be under consideration by another journal.
  3. Academic quality: The manuscript must demonstrate a clear research purpose, sound argumentation, appropriate use of scholarly literature, and conclusions supported by the analysis.
  4. Methodological or analytical rigor: The research methods, theoretical reasoning, or literature review approach must be appropriate to the manuscript's objectives and claims.
  5. Publication ethics: Authors must comply with the journal's policies on authorship, plagiarism, research integrity, conflicts of interest, and research ethics.
  6. Submission requirements: Manuscripts must follow the journal's current Author Guidelines, formatting requirements, and submission procedures.

The editorial team reserves the right to determine whether a submission is appropriate for the journal and whether it should proceed to peer review. Submission of a manuscript does not guarantee acceptance or publication. All manuscripts are subject to editorial screening and the journal's applicable peer-review procedures.

Publication Schedule

The Indonesian Journal of Gender Studies (IJouGS) is published twice a year, with regular issues scheduled for June and December.

The journal follows a biannual publication schedule to facilitate the timely dissemination of scholarly research and critical discussion in gender studies. Each issue contains manuscripts that have completed the journal's editorial assessment, peer-review process, revision requirements, and final editorial approval.

Publication Frequency

  • First issue: June
  • Second issue: December
  • Publication frequency: Two issues per year

Editorial and Publication Process

Manuscripts are processed throughout the year, subject to the journal's submission procedures and editorial capacity. The submission of a manuscript does not automatically determine the issue in which it will be published.

The publication of each manuscript depends on the completion of the editorial screening, peer review, required revisions, final acceptance, and production process. The editorial team determines the placement of accepted manuscripts in an issue according to editorial considerations, publication readiness, and the journal's publication schedule.

The journal aims to conduct its editorial and publication processes in a timely, consistent, and transparent manner. However, the time required for review, revision, and publication may vary depending on the nature of the manuscript, reviewer availability, the extent of revisions required, and other relevant editorial considerations.

Publication Schedule and Editorial Discretion

IJouGS makes reasonable efforts to publish its issues in accordance with the announced schedule. Nevertheless, the journal does not guarantee acceptance or publication within a particular period. Decisions regarding manuscript acceptance, issue assignment, and publication timing remain subject to the journal's editorial policies and quality-control procedures.

Authors are encouraged to prepare their manuscripts in accordance with the current Author Guidelines and to respond to editorial and reviewer comments within the specified deadlines to support an efficient publication process.
